JAKARTA – The domestic air cargo business this year will grow rapidly compared to the international.
Chairman of the Soekarno Hatta Trade Facilitation Committee Ibrahim Sahib said one factor that causes rapid growth is the number of airports built.
“So there will be a lot of supply and demand, which does not exist, so the time is very exciting,” he told Bisnis in Jakarta on Monday (04/23/2018).
Ibrahim exemplifies Kertajati Airport, Majalengka, West Java, which will be inaugurated in May will increase the growth of air cargo.
In contrast, international cargo has not shown a positive trend due to the world economic and political factors that are not good.
Ibrahim has not been able to give a definite figure of growth because of which last year has not come out. “May usually come out [cargo growth 2017].”
Even so business actors still take into account the ground time because it is a major challenge in the air cargo business.
Challenges are more severe when loading and unloading of cargo is done at airports that have high levels of aircraft movement.
Previously, Air Force Chief of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) Jakarta Arman Yahya said in the duration of ground time, cargo service officers must prepare goods from the warehouse, delivering to the location of the aircraft parking to load into the trunk of the plane.
Obstacles in the field, they have to wait for certainty plane landed in the parking stand where. Not to mention if the plane is waiting delayed flight (delay) or have to move parking because the aircraft plane (apron) is full. This often happens especially in busy airports.
Arman calls the air cargo service workers to be in the dark. Moreover, cargo transport is the airline’s last priority after passengers, baggage of passengers, and letters / documents.
In fact, do not rule out if the cargo will be left if it can not meet enough time to fit during ground time. The airlines will prioritize the importance of passengers who are the top priority.
