JAKARTA – The Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) urged the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises as the shareholders of Pelindo II and Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) to solve the crisis that occurred at the busiest container terminal at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta.
Adil Karim, Jakarta Secretary of ALFI, said the protracted settlement of JICT in addition to damaging the current Logistic Performance Index (LPI) of Indonesia also has the potential to create investment and business uncertainty in the seaport and sea transport sectors.
“There should be a firm stance from the Minister of SOEs and shareholders and management of JICT,” he said to Bisnis on Friday (4/8/2017).
Adil said that there is already a contingency plan effort in anticipation of minimizing JICT workers’ strike action.
“But the contingency plan is not a permanent step, if the strike continues afterwards then how? So there must be a quick step to resolve this issue, no need to wait until one week,” he explained.
On Friday (4/8/2017) is the second day of JICT Workers Union strike action. The strike action is scheduled to take place on August 3-10, 2017.
On Thursday (3/8/2017), JICT management has also issued a summons and first warning to 541 JICT workers who strike.
Priyo Handoko, SPJICT’s lawyer, said that the JICT Board of Directors’ revenge action by giving warning letter I to 541 workers was a haphazard and allegedly violating the rules.
In article 144 letter B of Law Number 13/2003 regarding written manpower, it is clear that employers are prohibited from giving any kind of retaliation to workers during and after the strike.
“Even warning letters are given to workers who are on maternity leave and performing the pilgrimage,” he said in a written statement.
In addition, he said, the warning letter was also given unilaterally to hundreds of workers without any court decision.
“To the actions of the JICT Board of Directors, it will be pursued by the legal means to sue the allegedly used decision to intimidate workers who are on strike,” Priyo said.
