This was conveyed by Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi after holding a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation and stakeholders after the opening of the Asia Europe Meeting Transport Minister Meeting (ASEM TMM) event at Hotel Westin Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday (26/09/2017).
“There are ten airports that we prepare to anticipate the eruption of Mount Agung in Jakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Solo, Ambon, Manado, Praya, Kupang, Banyuwangi.Ten tenth airport as an alternative airport for aircraft that serve the route to Ngurah Rai Airport which is closed when impacted volcanic ash Gunung Agung, “said Budi Karya in a press statement received KompasTravel, Tuesday (26/09/2017).
However, Budi Karya prayed that the eruption of Mount Agung if it erupts does not bring severe impact and disrupt flights to and from Ngurah Rai Airport.
According to the Transportation Minister, it is estimated that 5,000 passengers will be affected if Ngurah Rai Airport is closed due to Mount Agung eruption.
To anticipate this matter, the Minister of Transportation has prepared two plans (plan).
The first plan moved passengers to the Banyuwangi and Praya routes, and the second plan between Banyuwangi and Surabaya by land.
“Kemenhub has prepared 100 buses for the mobilization of passengers out of Bali through Banyuwangi, Surabaya and Praya. Of the estimated 5,000 passengers affected, 70 percent is expected to leave Bali. While 30 percent are passengers who come from Bali so it is not necessary vehicle to take, “said Minister of Transportation.
For further handling of passengers, upon arrival in Surabaya, Banyuwangi and Praya are handed over to each airline. The Transportation Minister said that the 10 airports prepared are for divert alternatives to aircraft that have flown to Bali.
“So the plane will be landed to the nearest location the plane was, or the direction of the arrival of the plane. For example if the plane is in a position near the airport in Makassar, then the plane will land there (Makassar). For that diversion Airnav will do that, “explained Minister of Transportation.
In addition, the MoC requested each airport authority to coordinate with the relevant agencies.
“Each authority must coordinate with the relevant agencies. For example, if the tourist has to stay over due to the eruption of Mount Agung, then immigration must provide assistance related to the extension of the tourist visa. To smooth the relief items I ask to coordinate with Customs, “said Budi Karya.
