As reported previously by Balidiscovery.com, (RIP: I Nyoman Gunarsa 1943-2017), one of Indonesia’s most internationally renowned artists died in Bali on September 10, 2017.
I Nyoman Gunarsa, who died at 74, curated an unrivaled collection of contemporary Indonesia art at the Klungkung museum that he founded in 1989. His paintings form part of important private and museum collections, including the National Palace of Indonesia in Jakarta.
One of the largest collections of Nyoman Gunarsa’s work decorates the walls of the Trans Resort Bali. A total of 9 large paintings by the Balinese artist known as “The Maestro” for the energetic, arm-flailing way in which he attacked an empty canvas can be found in the lobby and public areas of the hotel located atthe Seminyak end of Jalan Sunset in Bali.
Included in the Hotel’s collection are colossal paintings measuring 6 x 4 meters.
Those wishing to see Gunarsa’s remarkable work can tour the hotel and see paintings located in the lobby, the Trans Grand Ballroom, Boardroom and, subject to availability, several luxury villas.
The management of the hotel has placed a book of remembrance in the Hotel’s lobby until September 30th – the date on which Gunarsa’s cremation will take place in East Bali. The public is welcome to visit the hotel to see “The Maestro’s” work and sign the book that will be given to the Gunarsa family.
