A Singaporean tourist, Dr. Wong Yu Yi (48), has drowned while diving near the Bloo Lagoon at Padang Bai in East Bali.
Balipost.com reports the Singaporean medical practitioner drowned on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.
Eyewitnesses say that Wong lost consciousness while diving and was rushed to the nearby Penta Medika Clinic in Candidasa but expired in the ambulance on the way to the medical center.
Wong was diving with dive-guide Nyoman Aristawan (29) and two friends. The group of divers entered the water in front of the Candi Cottage Sengkidu shortly after 9:00 am and swam towards the area in front of the Bloo Lagoon Resort. During the course of the dive, Wong signaled to the dive guide that she wanted to surface and Aristawan immediately accompanied the Singaporean woman to the surface. When the two surfaced, Wong was already unconscious.
Using a local speedboat, Wong was brought to shore and transported to the medical clinic where the doctor on duty declared the victim dead-on-arrival.
The Straits Times reports that an autopsy performed on the woman indicate death was due to decompression sickness.
