As part of the preparations for the October 2018 conference of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – World Bank in Bali, the Udayana Military Command has undertaken special training to facilitate the rapid evacuation of conference delegates in the event of a natural disaster, such as an earthquake, tsunami, or volcanic eruption.
As reported by Beritabali.com, the exercise code-named “Tactical Floor Game” was held on Thursday, April 26, 2018, headquartered at the Makodam IX Hall of the Bali Military Command.
The evacuation exercise was under the command of Brigadier General Kasuri who coordinated command elements, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Bali Police, the Provincial Government of Bali and the Security teams from hotels in Nusa Dua.
The exercise simulated the challenges should the 18,000 plus delegates including an expected 27 heads-of-state.
The practice drills and plans are designed that, should the need arise, 4,302 trained police and military personnel would evacuate VIP and VVIP guest off the island in 10 hours and the remaining delegates in 2 x 24 hours.
Any evacuation, depending the actual nature of the actual natural disaster, would employ transport by land, sea and air. Hardware identified to be used for any evacuation procedure are 130 busses, 6 Indonesian Navy ships, 4 State-owned ferries, four CN 295 airplane based in Banyuwangi and Malang, 2 Hercules heavy-lift airplanes from Malang, and 20 helicopters.
