JAKARTA – News of the Asian-European Transport Ministers will be held in Bali on 26-29 September 2017.
Indonesia hosted the 4th Asia Europe Meeting Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM TMM) this year. An important issue that will be discussed in the meeting between the transport giants of countries in Asia and Europe, about the strategic plan for the integration of transportation connectivity and regional synergy.
This is the theme of “Bridging Asia and Europe through Integrated Transport Connectivity and Synergized Regional Strategic Plans”.
“We will talk for transportation in Asia and Europe. But the discussion later we will conduct a further briefing in Bali, “said Head of Cooperation Bureau Ministry of Transportation Agus Prihatin Saptono in Jakarta, Thursday (14/09/2017).
As host, Indonesia invited 51 countries and two international organizations, namely the European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport and the ASEAN Deputy Secretary General.
“Up to now 35 countries have said they will attend,” he said, adding that of the 35 countries, there are 18 Ministers or Deputy Ministers who will attend.
The 18 countries whose Ministers or Deputy Ministers will be present are Britain, Russia, Latvia, Hungary, Luxemburg, and Poland, sixth from Europe.
While from Asia are Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, and Brunei Darussalam.
The European countries that will be present without the Minister or Deputy Minister are Denmark, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, New Zealand, and Italy.
“Other countries are still not confirmed, but there is still time to wait for confirmation,” he said.
The biennial meeting, said Agus, is an ongoing meeting to encourage stronger cooperation in facing transportation challenges.
This is particularly the case for countries with landlocked and island-states, including areas with remote areas.
As planned, ASEM TMM4 will be opened by President Joko Widodo with Chairman of Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.
“In this event will be a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and several countries, as well as business forums and exhibitions of transportation and logistics,” said Agus. (omy)
