MEDAN-Actual loading and unloading of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) in the first half of 2017 reached 27.57 million tons or grew 44.78% compared to the same period last year of 19.05 million tons.
Bambang Eka Cahyana, President Director of Pelindo I, said that the significant increase of loading and unloading figures is due to an increase in the flow of export and import goods. He mentioned, among others, the export and import of cake, rubber, steel, fuel, sugar, wheat, bulk fertilizer and cement that occurred in the ports of Belawan, Dumai, Lhokseumawe and Gunung Sitoli.
Overall, the company’s performance growth is quite good in the first half of 2017. This is reflected in the increase in ship traffic traffic in both call and GT (Gross Tonage).
Actual ship traffic traffic during the first half of 2017 reached 32,358 calls, an increase of 5.64% over the same period last year which reached 30,630 calls.
“Through continuous improvement in service quality, the positive growth of ship traffic is also followed by significant operational performance growth,” he said in a press release on Sunday (3/9/2017).
Currently, waiting time or waiting time at Belawan International Container Terminal (BICT) is 1.45 hours / ship or can be reduced up to 44.44% compared to the same period last year which still reached 2.61 hours / ship.
With the improvement of waiting time, the productivity of container loading and unloading in BICT can also be boosted from 33.97 B / S / H (Box / Ship / Hour) to 47.86 B / S / H or increase by 40.89%.
In order to improve services and anticipate business growth, the company is also in the process of extending the Belawan Port container terminal terminal for phase II of 350 meters, currently the development progress has reached 30%.
