JAKARTA – Cikarang Dry Port (CDP) or Cikarang Land Port adds the frequency of container freight trains to Surabaya, East Java, to support the smoothness of national logistics.
Managing Director of CDP Benny Woenardi in Bekasi, West Java, Thursday (24/8/2017), said that the container freight train schedule from CDP to Surabaya is increased to 60 times per month or from twice daily per day to three times per day.
One trip, he added, container carts carry 30 carriages or the equivalent of 60 TEUs (container units).
“To support the operational of the train, we have increased the capacity of freight trains in the land ports,” he said in a presentation to stakeholders in the Port of Cikarang.
Previously, said Benny, the freight train station at the port is only enough for the train along the 20 carriages, so it must be disconnected and shading when loading and unloading.
After the expansion, he added, the length is enough for 30 cars at the same time, because with three lines available, two series of trains can perform concurrent loading and unloading and one lane for shading.
“Currently, five train operators have been operating at CDP connecting Cikarang land ports to Surabaya and Tanjung Priok Port along with increasing operators and frequency, the volume of goods has also increased,” he said.
According to Benny, he is currently working with national vessels to develop a domestic multimodal service, in which containers departing from CDP to Surabaya are transported by train and then followed by national national shipping services to various destinations in eastern Indonesia such as Bali, Mataram, Kupang And Papua.
Vice versa from Surabaya to Tanjung Priok then continued by national shipping services to various port destinations in western Indonesia.
“With this domestic multimodal service, the railway line in Java Island can be the bridge of western and eastern Indonesia,” Benny said.
