JAKARTA-The government welcomes the AirAsia Group’s investment plan that will build a hub at Silangit Airport and Banyuwangi Airport that connects other airports in the country.
Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs, Luhut B. Panjaitan, said the airport is the destination of the hub, Kualanamu Airport in Medan and Hanandjoeddin HAS Airport in Tanjung Pandan. Meanwhile, Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi will be the liaison for the East.

He explained that international flights that will stop at these airports come from India, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, China, to Thailand.
It said the additional infrastructure development of the hub support will be completed before the implementation of the IMF Annual Meeting in Bali in October 2018.
Luhut explained that the development will cooperate with PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), which is always the operator of both airports and the status of the airport business entity (BUBU).
Meanwhile, AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes who visited Kemaritiman Ministry of Agriculture’s office chose not to comment. After attending a 45-minute meeting with Luhut, Tony immediately entered the car without explaining.
