JAKARTA – The growth of cargo business PT. Garuda Indonesia Persero Tbk (GIAA: Indonesia) grew by double digits or about 12% in the first quarter. This is in line with the bright prediction of air freight shipments this year.

Director of International Cargo and Commerce Sigit Muhartono said the growth is influenced by the rise of trade through online.

“We have a space and a low-distance route. This we raise and start [targeting] in the field of e-commerce delivery, “he told Bisnis in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/4/2018).

Another effort made by the company with GIAA issuers is to connect shipments to other countries through cooperation through other airlines.

GIAA also made innovations this year by door-to-door shuttle service to provide more services in online shopping.

Sigit explained that air cargo shipments are a necessity as people want to receive goods quickly and distribution of customers in various corners. Seeing this condition he believes air cargo shipments will continue to grow.

In 2017 GIAA managed to transport 446.8 thousand tons of cargo transport. This number increased by 7.4% over the previous year.

Meanwhile, revenue from the shipments increased by 8.2% to $ 237.1 million in 2017.

Garuda also has strengthened cooperation with the delivery of third-party courier services such as Go-jek and Grab.

The cooperation is expected to improve services in addition to its own inter-service called Go Express.
